In response to the broadcast of a video showing five Israeli female soldiers who were captured by resistance fighters from al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas on October 7, 2023, the Movement issued a statement on Wednesday affirming that “the video was manipulated and the authenticity of what it contained cannot be confirmed.”
“The circulation of this video at this time comes in the context of failed attempts by the occupation to smear the image of our people’s valiant resistance through propagating fabricated narratives that have been proven false by multiple media outlets and investigative reports,” Hamas said.
“The video shows footage of female soldiers at a military site after they were captured during their work at the command center of the Gaza division and while wearing civilian clothing during a rest period, especially since the attack happened in the early morning of Saturday, October 7, which was their day off,” Hamas explained.
Hamas pointed out that there were intentional scene cuts and selection of certain clips in the video to support Israeli claims and lies about the exposure of those female soldiers to assault.
Hamas also said that the video contained manipulated English translation and fabricated words in English and Arabic that were not uttered by any resistance fighter at the military site.
Hamas said that the presence of minor injuries and blood on the soldiers “is something expected in such operations,” which could involve stampedes, adding that the video scenes did not show any physical attack or violent act against the soldiers.
“The female soldiers were treated according to the ethics of our resistance and no mistreatment of those soldiers in this unit was proven,” its statement added.
“All the pictures and scenes from the recent detainee exchanges have confirmed the good treatment they (Israeli captives) received during their presence in the custody of the resistance in Gaza, unlike our male and female prisoners in the occupation jails, who are facing oppression, abuse and death,” the statement concluded.
