With overwhelming popular anger and widespread Palestinian condemnation, the Palestinians continue to react to the Israeli crime of assassinating the chief of Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haneyya, in Tehran.
General strike and rallies
The Palestinian national and Islamic forces announced a general strike and launched massive rallies, in condemnation of the assassination of Haneyya.
The forces mourned the Hamas leader in a press statement on Wednesday, stressing that “this cowardly assassination will not break the will and steadfastness of our people, but will increase their determination to move forward through adhering to their rights and national constants until freedom and independence.”
Palestinian Legislative Council
The Palestinian Legislative Council mourned Haneyya and extended its condolences to the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nation, Arab and international parliaments, and the free people of the world, and to Dr. Ismail Abdel Salam Haneyya, the son of the leader Haneyya.
The Council stressed in a statement that “this crime, despite its heinousness, will only increase the resistance of our people in strength, expansion and vigor.”
Abbas condemns
The President of the Palestinian national Authority Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned the assassination of the head of the Hamas Movement, dubbing it “a cowardly act and a dangerous development.”
Abbas called on the masses of the Palestinian people and its forces to unite, be patient and steadfast in the face of the Israeli occupation.
The government condemns
The Palestinian government condemned Haneyya’s assassination and called on the factions, forces and all the Palestinian people to cling to further national unity and steadfastness in the face of the occupation and its crimes.
Fatah Movement
The Palestinian National Liberation Movement “Fatah” said that Haneyya’s assassination is a heinous crime and a cowardly act.
Fatah added in a statement on Wednesday, that “the Israeli policy of assassinations will not break the will of our people to achieve their national rights to freedom and independence”.
It called on the masses of the Palestinian people to unite at this critical stage of the Palestinian people’s struggle by strengthening steadfastness and confronting the occupation, rejecting all conspiracies to liquidate the Palestinian cause, and preserving the political and geographical unity between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, as a single political and entity unit.
The Fatah Movement extended its sincere condolences to the Palestinian people, Hamas and Haneyya’s family.
Islamic Jihad
The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine mourned “the great national leader, the head of Hamas, the martyr Ismail Haneyya, and extended its condolences to the Palestinian people and to the Arab and Islamic nation.
“The movement stressed in a press statement that the sinful assassination carried out by the criminal enemy against the symbol of resistance, Haneyya, will not deter our people from continuing the resistance until an end is put to the Zionist crimes that have crossed all limits,” Islamic Jihad said.
The movement offered its sincere condolences to “the brothers in Hamas, the family of the great leader, his supporters and loved ones.”
The Popular Front
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) mourned the head of the political bureau of the Hamas Movement Ismail Haneyya (Abu al-Abed), who was martyred with one of his guards in a treacherous Zionist raid that targeted him in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The Popular Front said in a statement, “The Commander Ismail Haneyya followed the path of the martyrs in the battle to defend the Palestinian existence in the face of the Zionist genocide.”
The PFLP called on the Palestinian people, the peoples of the Arab and Islamic nations, and the free people of the world to “rise up and revolt against the criminal enemy that continues its crimes to ignite the region and the entire world.”
The National Initiative
The Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement Mustafa Barghouti, mourned Haneyya and said “We condemn the occupation army’s perpetration of this heinous crime.”
“This heinous crime will only increase the Palestinian people and their valiant resistance’s determination to continue the struggle and fight for freedom, dignity, and the right to self-determination,” he added.
“The Palestinian people lost today a valiant, struggling leader who was always distinguished by his patriotism, integrity, and honesty, and by his sincere concern for national unity and protecting the interests of the Palestinian people,” he said.
The Popular Conference of Palestinians Abroad
The Popular Conference of Palestinians Abroad mourned the great national leader Ismail Haneyya, saying “As we offer our condolences to our Arab and Islamic nation, our patient, struggling Palestinian people, their valiant resistance, and the martyr’s comrades for this great loss, let us emphasize that the cowardly assassination by the Zionist occupation and its continuous aggression against our people everywhere will only increase our people’s steadfastness and adherence to their legitimate rights and national unity, and their insistence on resistance as a national option to restore rights until liberation, return and defeat of the occupation.”
It called for mobilizing and taking action to deter the occupation and its crimes and for supporting the Palestinian people and their steadfastness.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Hamas announced in a statement the Israeli assassination of the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haneyya in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The Movement announced to the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nation, and to all the free people of the world, the martyrdom of its “leader and martyr Ismail Haneyya, head of the Movement, who was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence place in Tehran, after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president”.
