Mary Robinson, the first woman to serve as President of Ireland (1990-1997), stated that Israel operates in the Middle East without facing consequences. In an interview with Radio 1, part of the Irish Broadcasting and Radio Authority, she noted that “the world watches as Israel crosses all red lines and commits horrific violations of international law.”
Robinson, who was the seventh president of Ireland, emphasized that “on an international level, the lives of people in Gaza and Lebanon are viewed as much less valuable than those in Israel.” She explained that the United States holds the only leverage capable of compelling Israel to comply and implement a ceasefire, urging Washington to halt its arms supply to Tel Aviv.
Robinson believes that if the United States stops supplying arms to Israel, Europe will follow suit. The former Irish president criticized Israel’s ability to evade consequences for its actions in Gaza, stating, “It has not felt that it has paid the price.”
Robinson currently serves as the president of the non-governmental organization “The Elders,” which was founded in 2007 by former South African President Nelson Mandela to include prominent leaders and globally recognized figures.
With unwavering American support, Israel has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in over 138,000 Palestinian fatalities and injuries, the majority of whom are children and women, along with more than 10,000 missing persons, amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
Disregarding the international community, Israel continues its massacres in Gaza, ignoring a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt and orders from the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
