Hamas parliamentary bloc rejects US plan

Sunday 29-April-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Dr. Salah Al-Bardaweel the spokesman of Hamas’ parliamentary bloc in the PLC criticized on Sunday a new US plan dubbed “free crossing in exchange for security” that was handed over to the Israeli occupation government and the PA.

According to the plan the Israeli occupation government would open crossing points in Gaza Strip before Gazans in addition to easing restrictions on free movement of Palestinians at roadblocks in the West Bank on condition the PA security forces would thwart Palestinian missile attacks on Israeli settlements.

“Free crossing of people is a right sanctioned by international laws and conventions for all peoples and thus we demand it as a natural right and not in exchange for something else” said Bardaweel in a press statement he made in reaction to the plan.

He also affirmed that the Palestinian question is a question of occupation and thus he explained temporary solutions cannot be part of the liberation project.

“If they want to dwarf the Palestinian issue or attempt to attach our free crossing to our future freedom and national constants then such a thing is absolutely rejected by the Palestinian people as we won’t trade our constants at all costs” the Hamas lawmaker further asserted.

He added that if the aim of the plan was for us to trade our inalienable rights for our freedom of movement then that is not acceptable but the plan could be part of a more comprehensive plan that would completely restore the usurped rights of the Palestinian people.

According to Bardaweel the USA and Israel are striving to achieve two goals namely: to divide the Palestinian people as embodied in the Dayton security plan; and to free the Israeli occupation government of any obligations repercussions or international political blame due to its incessant rejection of Arab EU and Russian peace initiatives.

The MP furthermore confirmed that the Israeli occupation government was and still is turning its back to peace initiatives in the region which put it in a political dilemma before the international community and thus he opined the USA rushed to rescue it through such plans.
