An Israeli officer was killed, and five others wounded in a shooting attack in Ashdod on Tuesday, Israeli sources said.
Hebrew media reported that a gunman opened fire on an Israeli police force in “Yavne Ashdod”, killing one of them and wounding the others.
The shooter was also shot dead during the attack, the sources added.
Police said officers were at the scene of the shooting near the Yavne South interchange.
“The attacker was eliminated by a civilian,” Israeli media added.
Commenting on the attack, the Hamas Movement praised that attack, saying it was a “heroic shooting operation” and calling “for more painful strikes against the occupation.”
Ashdod shooting operation is a natural reaction to the starvation and massacres committed by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza, especially in the northern Gaza Strip, the Movement said.
The recent escalation of anti-occupation operations in the West Bank and in the occupied territories came in response to the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
