Mohammad Saleh, the director of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, warned that fuel will run out by tomorrow, Sunday, which will have negative implications that worsen the “terrifying health situation” in the region, which has been undergoing a campaign of extermination and ethnic cleansing by Israel for the past 29 days.

In statements to the press on Saturday, Saleh noted that they are operating with very limited resources and with only one doctor. He said that Al-Awda Hospital is currently the only hospital in northern Gaza that has a general surgeon, at a time when the number of injuries requiring urgent surgical interventions in the brain, nerves, blood vessels, eyes, and bones is increasing.

He indicated that more than 70% of the injuries received at the hospital need urgent surgical interventions, expressing his grave concern about the unprecedented deteriorating situation in the hospital and other medical facilities in the north. He described the situation in the province as terrifying, especially given the severe shortage of medical personnel and essential supplies, as well as the deliberate targeting of hospitals by Israeli occupation forces.

Saleh mentioned that there are significant challenges in transporting injured Palestinians from targeted areas in the field, especially due to the Israeli army’s destruction of ambulance vehicles and the removal of the Palestinian Civil Defense from service in the province.

He added, “The injured are currently being transported to the hospital carried on the shoulders of citizens walking on foot, and in some cases, they are being transported on carts pulled by animals.”

Additionally, Saleh explained that the hospital is under repeated gunfire from the Israeli army, which disrupts operations and poses a threat to the lives of patients and medical staff. He pointed to the immense pressure faced by the medical staff in the hospital due to the volume of injuries, in addition to the shortage of medicines and essential medical supplies.
