Yahya Sinwar, the engaged leader, the seasoned politician, the caring father—these are just some of the qualities of the Hamas leader who left behind a legendary legacy. His memory is elevated, and his stances and words are recalled to understand the journey of the leader of the Al-Aqsa Flood.

As much as the recent scene of Sinwar’s ascension in the frontlines of battle stirred comments from writers and bloggers in pride and praise, writings continued to explore various aspects of the life of this leader who dedicated his life to his cause.

The human side of Sinwar’s personality has been revealed in various reports, showing that beneath his firmness, toughness, and strictness lies another side of gentleness and compassion.

The leader who surprised the world by fighting in the front lines of combat revealed through reports some behind-the-scenes moments showing his emotional side towards his children, whom he left for a full year to join his sons in the Al-Qassam Brigades, leading in the field of confrontation.

Longing for them
Sources indicate that on one occasion, Yahya Sinwar was near his children, whom the enemy accused of hiding in tunnels away from their people. Sinwar hoped that he could only see one of them, “I swear I miss them,” but the conditions on the ground prevented him from seeing them during that period.

Sinwar married in 2011 and had three children: Ibrahim, Abdullah, and Rida, the last named after his mother, whom he had been away from for 27 years in Israeli jails.

In another incident, sources say that during his presence in one of the houses that had been occupied by the Israeli forces, the fighters found food left by the soldiers who had abandoned the place before withdrawing. Sinwar, who was fighting alongside them at close range, remarked, “This food is not for us; we will not eat it.”

Steadfastness and determination
Yahya Sinwar was engaged in advanced positions in Khan Yunis and was one of the last to exit with the fighters from a neighborhood besieged by the occupation forces for many days. He personally led ambushes to destroy Israeli tanks and military vehicles. He was not just moving among the fighters to check on their conditions.

The courageous leader, martyr Yahya Sinwar, fell in battle on October 16, 2024, after leading the greatest battle in the history of the Palestinian people—the Al-Aqsa Flood. He moved for a whole year across various fronts in the Gaza Strip, standing at the helm of the valiant resistance fighters, until his image became a global icon of the resisting human spirit, according to a statement from Hamas.

The statement concluded that Sinwar ended his rich life of jihad and struggle with martyrdom as he wished, advancing without retreat, lighting the path of freedom and salvation for the Palestinian people and purifying the land and holy sites from the defilement of fascist Zionists.
