Prisoners’ organizations announced the central events program to commemorate the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, which falls on April 17 of each year, coming this year at one of the most difficult times witnessed by the Palestinian people, especially in light of the escalating repressive policies against the prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
The institutions explained that the events will be organized throughout Wednesday and Thursday (April 16-17, 2025), in various governorates of the West Bank, with wide public participation, to show solidarity with the prisoners and to support their steadfastness.
On Wednesday, April 16, events will take place in a number of cities, with a sit-in at the Manara Roundabout in Ramallah at 11:30 p.m., followed by an event at Nablus’s Shuhada Square at 12:00 p.m., and at the Manger Square in Bethlehem at 1:00 p.m.
Other sit-ins will also be held at Martyr Abu Ali Iyad Square in Qalqilya and Martyrs’ Roundabout in Tubas at 12:00 pm.
On Thursday, April 17, the city of Al-Khalil will witness a central rally at Ibn Rashid roundabout at 12:00 p.m., with simultaneous events at the main roundabout in the town of Arraba, south of Jenin, at 11:00 p.m., and Jericho city roundabout at 11:00 p.m., in addition to an event in Salfit governorate square at the same time.
The organizations stressed that these events aim at emphasizing that the issue of prisoners will remain present in the conscience of the Palestinian people, and that supporting them in light of the ongoing crimes and violations against them is a national duty.
Palestinian Prisoner’s Day comes this year amid the harshest conditions in decades, especially for prisoners from the Gaza Strip, who have been held in complete isolation since the outbreak of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
Prisoners’ organizations have documented shocking testimonies of systematic torture, deliberate medical neglect, starvation, and physical and psychological abuse practiced against hundreds of detainees, especially those arrested during the latest Israeli aggressions.
