Hamas rejects US intervention in Palestinian matters warns of Dayton plan

Wednesday 18-April-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Hamas Movement has unequivocally condemned the military plan of US General Keith Dayton charging that the plan aims at igniting infighting in the Palestinian arena and pushing the Palestinian people into the marsh of civil war.

“The US support for a particular party in the Palestinian arena at the expense of other parties is an obvious attempt to sow divisiveness in the Palestinian street and to fuel tension in the Palestinian arena for the benefit of Israel” said the Movement’s spokesman in Gaza Strip Dr. Ismail Redwan.

The American administration should keep its hands off the Palestinian internal affairs and stop tampering with the Palestinian people’s security Redwan added calling on Palestinian parties to reject conditional financial aid that is channeled at expense of the Palestinian people’s national unity.

Redwan was apparently reacting to news reports published by the Hebrew Ha’aretz newspaper that unveiled the plan which aims at bolstering military capabilities of PA security apparatuses attached to PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.

The spokesman also urged the PA presidency to spend the 60 million dollars on salaries and other crucial needs of the Palestinian people asserting that security coordination with the Israeli occupation government against the Palestinian resistance is a “red line” that shouldn’t be violated.

On the other hand Redwan acknowledged that he has no information on alleged reports suggesting that thousands of Fatah cadres were undergoing military training in a number of Arab countries.

But he explained that Hamas welcomes any step to bolster efficiency of the PA security apparatuses with the aim to maintain law and order and curb security mess in the Palestinian arena.

Yet he added malicious foreign attempts to strengthen certain Palestinian parties at the expense of other parties is vehemently rejected by Hamas and the Palestinian people.

The Hebrew Ha’aretz newspaper that revealed the plan quoted Israeli deputy war minister Ephraim Snieh as saying “Beefing up Abbas’ forces and supplying them the needed weapons and ammunition would in no way harm Israel’s security as we agreed to develop military skills of Abbas’ forces to confront the growing military force of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza”.

For his part Hamas senior political leader MP Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya scathingly criticized security meetings between Israeli and PA security officers charging that they were meant to strangle the legitimate Palestinian resistance.

“They want to push us into the swamp of disappointment and hopelessness in order to implement the USA and Israeli agenda and political solution in the region” Hayya explained.

Yet he affirmed Hamas will never forswear the resistance or give up arms despite the sacrifices it might pay for that stand asserting “Resistance and resistance only is the sole means to liberate occupied Palestine and to retrieve the usurped rights of the Palestinian people”.
