A US “$70 million” F-18 warplane sinks into the Red Sea after Yemen’s armed forces attacked the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. One sailor was lightly injured in the incident, CNN and other media outlets reported on Monday.

The US navy reported that an F-18 “Super Hornet” fighter jet sank to the bottom of the Red Sea after it fell overboard from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier while being towed.

The incident reportedly occurred when the Truman carrier made a sharp turn to avoid Yemeni projectiles attacking it in the Red Sea.

According to the navy, there was one crew member aboard the jet and a second crew member inside a tractor towing the warplane when the incident occurred.

Both personnel were able to jump out in time with only one person sustaining a minor injury, according to US army officials.

As a result, the fighter jet and the towing vehicle fell overboard.

Earlier on Monday, Yemen’s armed forces, which are controlled by Ansarullah (Houthi) group, claimed to have launched a counterattack on the aircraft carrier with drones and missiles in response to renewed deadly strikes on Sana’a and other provinces.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s health ministry in Sana’a announced that the death toll from Sunday’s US airstrikes on homes in the Bani Al-Harith district in the capital, Sana’a, surged to 12 civilians, including women and children, adding that four other people were injured in the attack.

On Monday, at least 70 civilians were massacred and many others were injured following a US airstrike on a detention center for African migrants in Saada City, northwest of Yemen.
