Former Palestinian prisoner Moatasem Raddad, 42, from the town of Seida north of Tulkarem, passed away on Thursday in an Egyptian hospital due to complications from illnesses that had severely worsened during his detention in Israeli prisons.
Raddad was arrested in 2006 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Throughout his detention, he suffered from dire health conditions, having sustained shrapnel injuries at the time of his arrest. His health progressively deteriorated due to the lack of proper medical care, leading to the development of chronic and serious illnesses, including severe intestinal inflammations, chronic bleeding, high blood pressure, respiratory distress, irregular heartbeats, and severe pain in his back and joints.
Despite his worsening condition, Raddad was denied necessary medical treatment. He was routinely transferred from Ofer Prison to the Ramla Prison Clinic, yet the poor conditions of transport and mistreatment during these transfers exacerbated his suffering.
Following his release, Raddad was moved to a hospital in Egypt for treatment; however, his health had deteriorated to such an extent that he succumbed to his illnesses.
It is noteworthy that Moatasem Raddad was among the prisoners freed as part of a resistance exchange deal. He spent many long years in detention, enduring deliberate medical neglect that gravely aggravated his condition, particularly the serious illnesses he developed.
