Mishaal confers with Qatari Emir on PA unity government

DOHA (PIC)– Khaled Mishaal the Hamas political bureau chief on Sunday held talks with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani on Palestinian developments especially formation of the national unity government.

Sources in Doha said that Mishaal who arrived in Qatar Saturday night at the head of a Hamas delegation briefed the Emir on results of his recent Arab and foreign tour in the presence of Qatar’s first deputy premier and foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Al-Thani.

Mishaal’s visit to Qatar falls in line with his Arab and foreign tour that took him to Syria Egypt Sudan Russia Malaysia Iran and Yemen.

The sources quoted Mishaal as saying that his Movement was committed to the unity government’s program that primarily targets lifting the financial embargo imposed on the Palestinian people.

The Hamas leader expressed conviction that the program reflected the prevailing political de facto conditions without surrendering constants that target establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The sources said that Mishaal asked the Qatari leadership to convince international parties to lift the economic boycott of the Palestinian people. He welcomed a number of EU countries’ stands especially Norway that declared its recognition of the new government and decided to lift the economic sanctions on the Palestinians.

Sheikh Khalifa according to the sources welcomed the formation of the PA unity government and the confidence vote it secured at the PLC. He affirmed his country’s continued economic assistance to the government as agreed upon during PA premier Ismail Haneyya’s visit to Doha last December.
