France expresses support for the new Palestinian unity government

GAZA (PIC) — The French government sent on Thursday evening a letter to the PA Foreign Minister-designate Dr. Ziad Abu Amr expressing French support for the new unity government which will be presented on Saturday to the Palestinian Legislative Council for a vote of confidence.

The French Foreign Minister Phillipe Douste-Blazy expressed his government’s support for the Makkah agreement and the formation of the unity government and expressed hopes that the new government will turn a new leaf in the relations of the PA government with the international community.

For his part Dr. Amr sent a letter to the French FM in which he thanked him and the French government for their support and expressed his wish for a meeting as soon as possible.

Dr. Amr also said that on Thursday evening he received at his office in Gaza city Mr. Richard Makepeace the British Consul General who congratulated Dr. Amr and discussed the issue of Alan Johnston the BBC journalist kidnapped in Gaza on Monday evening.

Dr. Amr assured Mr. Makepeace that both President Abbas and Prime Minister- designate Haneyya are doing their best to ensure the safe release of Mr. Johnston.
