RAMALLAH (PIC)– Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi Palestine chief Islamic judge and Archimandrite Attalla Hanna the Orthodox leader on Saturday declared the formation of an Islamic-Christian front to defend Jerusalem and its holy shrines.
Hanna told a press conference in Ramallah that the front aims at coordinating efforts of institutions concerned with Jerusalem affairs in the Palestinian lands and abroad to support the threatened holy city.
He urged all religious leaders and Palestinian national figures to join the front affirming that the city was in need of all efforts.
“The violations against the Aqsa Mosque and the attempts to judaize and steal Christian endowments called on us to meet and establish this front” he underlined.
For his part Tamimi said that the diggings at the Aqsa Mosque were destroying historical buildings and relics affirming that the Israeli occupation authority was trying to demolish the Aqsa to build the alleged temple on its ruins.
He further charged that Israel was trying to judaize the entire city of Jerusalem noting that 180000 Jewish settlers were now residing in the eastern sector of the city which was occupied in 1967.
Dr. Hassan Khater the author of the Quds and Aqsa Mosque encyclopedia said that the IOA measures indicate its intention to control the Aqsa Mosque.
Khater who read out the statement declaring formation of the front said that the front is a non-profit non-governmental institution and that its doors are open for all those concerned with the holy city.
The statement warned that the IOA systematic isolation of the city and other oppressive procedures and ceaseless aggressions would ignite religious feuds and a holy war the repercussions of which would be disastrous.
