Haneyya declares Nablus disaster area Shaer inspects it

Saturday 3-March-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– The PA unity government premier-designate Ismail Haneyya has declared the West Bank city of Nablus “a disaster area” after a week-long IOF troops’ vandalism in it and ordered the immediate disbursement of 500000 dollars in urgent relief assistance to the city’s residents.

Haneyya’s decision was widely hailed in the city as finance minister in the PA caretaker government Dr. Samir Abu Aisha affirmed the decision adding that the prime minister was closely following up developments in the city.

“What is happening in Nablus is a continuation to the Israeli atrocities against the holy city of Jerusalem and the Aqsa as more than 215 homes and commercial stores in the city have been completely destroyed at the hands of the Israeli invaders” Haneyya affirmed in his Friday sermon.

For his part education minister and vice-premier in the caretaker government Dr. Nasser Al-Dein Al-Shaer inspected the devastation in the city and met with Palestinian citizens in the city’s old town who explained the “savage” IOF practices against them during the invasion.

Nablus is considered the largest commercial city in Palestine; but the IOF troops destroyed tens of commercial stores and factories in it during the repeated incursions.

Civil society institutions in the city also welcomed Haneyya’s decision and considered it as “quick response” to the people’s needs on the part of the PA premier.

The institutions furthermore called on the PA security apparatuses to immediately carry out their duties in keeping peace and order in the city in the wake of the IOF troops’ aggression.

Meanwhile a statistics report issued by the international media center affirmed that more than 613 Palestinian citizens including 81 children and 29 ladies among others had been killed with IOF bullets in Nablus city since the year 2000.

Losses inflicted on the city’s commercial sector as a result of the invasion were estimated at more than 1.8 million dollars within two days of comprehensive curfew the IOF troops imposed on the city.
