Qassam spokesman affirms upgrading of weaponry denies obtaining Sagger

Thursday 22-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Qassam Brigades spokesman in the Gaza Strip Abu Obaida denied on Wednesday Hebrew press reports that the armed wing had acquired Sagger anti-tank missiles.

The spokesman speaking to the Qassam website said that his armed wing was always trying to upgrade its military potentials to confront the Israeli tanks in particular and war machine in general. He elaborated that it managed to cover major strides in this field.

Abu Obaida also affirmed that it was the Palestinian people’s right to own such missiles and more because the “Zionist enemy” always declare its intention to wage a large-scale invasion of the Strip.

He said that Israel hardly waited for an excuse to commit more murders and violence against the Palestinian people and cited the West Bank as an example where no missiles are fired at Israel yet the IOF daily incursions and arrests never stopped.

The spokesman did not rule out that circulating such news were meant to furnish the ground for a fresh incursion. He also denied presence of Hizbullah arms caches in Gaza.

Israeli security sources had expressed concern that the Qassam Brigades had smuggled Sagger anti-tank missiles into the Strip.
