Haneyya briefs Jordanian counterpart on Makkah agreement

Monday 19-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Ismail Haneyya the PA premier-designate has briefed Jordanian premier Marof Al-Bakhit on details of the Makkah agreement concluded between Hamas and Fatah movements under Saudi patronage.

Well informed Palestinian sources said that the Haneyya contacted Bakhit over the telephone last Friday and discussed with him Palestinian developments including efforts on formation of a national unity government following the Makkah agreement.

The sources quoted Bakhit as saying that Amman was fully prepared to extend full support to the unity government on its formation.

Palestinian sources meanwhile expected the Jordanian government to extend an invitation to Hanneya to visit Amman after forming that government.

Jordanian monarch King Abdullah II last year extended an invitation to both Haneyya and PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to visit Jordan and settle differences but the meeting did not materialize despite being welcomed by both the PA premiership and presidency.
