Monday 19-February-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– IOF troops last night and at dawn Monday rounded up 15 Palestinian citizens in various West Bank cities and villages claiming they were resistance activists.

Hebrew radio quoted an IOF spokesman as saying that the 15 Palestinians were alleged members in the Hamas and Islamic Jihad Movements in addition to the AMB the armed wing of Fatah faction.

He said that the arrests were made in Al-Khalil Nablus Bethlehem and Ramallah and added that the IOF unit operating in Nablus came under resistance gunfire that damaged one its jeeps but no casualties were sustained.

Locals in Nablus said that the IOF soldiers broke into Balata Asker and Ein Beit Al-Ma refugee camps surrounding Nablus along with the city itself and kidnapped three civilians.

They said that intensified firing was heard in downtown Nablus during the IOF incursion adding that the IOF soldiers wreaked havoc in all homes stormed during that raid.

In Al-Khalil IOF troops on Monday morning kidnapped Dr. Hatem Shehade 54 after breaking into his home in the city.

PA security sources said that the troops ransacked Shehade’s home and terrorized women and children before kidnapping him. Shehade is the West Bank advisor to PA health minister Dr. Basim Na’im.

In the Gaza Strip the AMB fired two home made rockets at the Israeli Kissufim crossing point in retaliation to the Israeli excavations at the Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

The AMB said that more missiles would be fired at IOF targets as long as the diggings continued and urged the Arab and Muslim countries to defend the holy site.

Two other offshoots of the Fatah faction declared joint responsibility on Monday for firing four “upgraded” missiles at the Israeli settlement of Sderot near the Gaza Strip in response to the Israeli excavations and the daily arrests in lines of Palestinians in the West Bank.
An IOF spokesman also acknowledged that an explosive device went off near an IOF patrol at the separation fence surrounding the Gaza Strip but said that no casualties were sustained.
He also said that an unarmed Palestinian civilian was arrested in north of the Strip at the pretext he was trying to infiltrate into the green line Palestinian lands occupied in 1948 through the security fence.
