DAMASCUS (PIC)– Khaled Mishaal the Hamas Movement’s supreme leader on Thursday briefed Syrian president Hafez Al-Assad on details of the Makkah agreement between Fatah and Hamas movements on forging a national unity government.
A Hamas press release said that Assad welcomed the agreement and affirmed his country’s support. The president said that Syria backed the formation of a Palestinian national unity government and supported Palestinian concord the release added.
It noted that Mishaal accompanied by a number of the Movement’s political bureau members thanked the Syrian leadership for its efforts in the period that preceded the agreement noting that those efforts played a role in accomplishing the Makkah agreement.
Mishaal met on Wednesday with Syrian vice president Farouk Al-Shara and foreign minister Walid Al-Mu’alem for the same purpose the release concluded.
