Zionist decision to demolish mosque in Beersheba

Friday 16-February-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– A Zionist judge at a Beersheba magistrates’ court endorsed an administrative order to demolish the Morabitoon mosque in the village of al-Sayyed in the Negev desert in southern Palestine under the pretext that the building does not meet standards and lacks a planning permit.

The judge reluctantly agreed to give 30 days for an appeal against his decision.

The case was brought to the court by the Aqsa Foundation for Islamic holy places in an attempt to get a court to cancel administrative demolition order.

The lawyer representing the foundation Muhammad Sulaiman said that the mosque serves the village the population of which is 4000 people and it is the only mosque in the village.

The lawyer representing the occupation’s district planning department said the mosque was built without a permit and that it was not possible to get a permit for the building. He added that the demolition order was issued before the completion of the mosque and that the petitioners were at fault because they were using an illegal building.

The judge endorsed the demolition order at which point the lawyer of the Aqsa Foundation applied for a period to appeal the court’s decision the judge reluctantly agreed to a 30 day period during which the decision could be appealed.

The mosque was built last year during a camp organized by the Islamic movement in 1948 occupied Palestine.
