Captive leaders call on Abbas to cancel meeting with Olmert

Friday 16-February-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– A number of imprisoned political leaders as well as other Palestinian figures on Thursday called on President Mahmoud Abbas to cancel his scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minster Ehud Olmert to protest at the latest Israeli aggression against the Aqsa Mosque.

Lawmaker sheikh Daud Abu Sair representative of Nablus district said: “the aggression that the Aqsa Mosque is subjected to warrants a message of protest from Abbas in the form of cancellation of the scheduled meeting between Abbas and Olmert to bring to the attention of the world the extent of the Israeli aggression against Muslim holy places.”

Abdul-Naser Eisa a captive leader said that the priorities for the Palestinian leadership should be the unity of the Palestinian people and the protection of the Aqsa Mosque adding that Palestinians should be wary of the intentions of Israeli leaders who were clearly disappointed by the Makkah agreement between Hamas and Fatah.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Natshe another captive leader opined that meeting with Olmert will not achieve anything tangible for the Palestinians and said that boycotting Olmert should be the first step of escalating protest in defense of the Aqsa Mosque.
