Haneyyas vows speedy constitutional measures for unity government

Thursday 15-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– PA premier Ismail Haneyya has vowed to speed up constitutional measures towards formation of the PA unity government calling on the international community to lift the unjust siege on the Palestinian people.

Addressing the weekly cabinet session on Wednesday Haneyya affirmed “The PA council of ministers is supporting and blessing the Makkah accord and it will act according to it”.

Haneyya also urged the Palestinian people to abide by the agreement especially in preserving the sanctity of the Palestinian blood and prohibiting Palestinian internecine clashes.

He explained that his government was moving towards the formation of a unity government and that it was taking all the necessary constitutional measures to establish it as fast as possible.

The issue of the IOA excavations at the Aqsa Mosque was also present at the meeting’s agenda as the premier underlined that his government was and still is giving great attention to the issue of Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque amidst the accelerating Israeli steps to judaize them.

“The occupied city of Jerusalem is exposed to complete IOA distortion policy including isolating tens of thousands of Palestinian Jerusalemites confiscating vast areas of lands and canceling residency IDs of Palestinian citizens in the city among other measures” the prime minister pointed out.

In this context Haneyya urged the Palestinian people to enhance national unity for the sake of the Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem and called on the Arab and Muslim worlds as well as the international community to shoulder their responsibility towards these two sacred Muslim spots.

Ten days ago the IOA started demolition works at the western wall of the Aqsa Mosque which spurred protest demonstrations across Palestine and in a number of Arab and Muslim countries.
