Arab MK asks Jordan to pressure Israel into releasing kidnapped MPs

Tuesday 13-February-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– The Arab member of the Israeli Knesset Abbas Zakur has urged Jordanian monarch King Abdullah II to pressure the Israeli government so as to release all abducted Palestinian deputies.

Zakur who was attending a meeting between Arab MPs in the Israeli parliament and Jordanian officials said that King Abdullah could register a historical stand through pressuring Tel Aviv into releasing those deputies mostly from Hamas Movement.

The Arab deputies praised Jordanian catering of Palestinian students of the 1948 lands especially in the university and higher studies Haj (pilgrimage) and Omra (minor pilgrimage).

Meanwhile Israeli political sources said that relations between Israel and Jordan would remain strong and warm despite the excavations at the Aqsa Mosque.

Amman had denounced the diggings and denied pre-knowledge of the Israeli plans despite the fact that the peace treaty between the two governments signed back in 1994 stipulated Jordanian role in catering for the holy Islamic and Christian sites in occupied Jerusalem.
