Rezka praises Russia France positions on Makkah deal slams hesitant stands

Tuesday 13-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– PA information minister Dr. Yousef Rezka has commended French president Jacque Chirac for calling on the international community to support the Makkah agreement that was inked between Hamas and Fatah last week in Makkah city.

The minister in a statement on Tuesday also praised the Russian stand of urging the international community to deal with Hamas Movement and the PA government it leads being a democratically elected government and in its capacity as a de facto situation.

But he was disappointed over the hesitant stands taken by a number of European countries which he charged were “irresponsibly following the USA stand”.

Yet he was optimistic that Saudi Jordanian and Egyptian efforts in convincing those countries into softening their stands and welcoming the agreement would succeed.

Rezka furthermore hailed the reconciliatory speech of PA premier Ismail Haneyya on Monday and considered it as a new page in the Palestinian life and the collective national action inviting all Palestinian factions to cooperate with Haneyya in his new mission.

Haneyya is expected to form the PA national unity government in the coming few days as stipulated in the Saudi-sponsored Makkah agreement.

In the speech Haneyya urged the USA to respect the Palestinian people’s democratic will and to stop meddling in Palestinian internal affairs. “This is our vision that the international community must respect” Haneyya said in the speech.
