The Palestinian prisoner Samer al-Mahroom from Jenin city to the north of the West Bank had his first baby “Adam” on Sunday after three decades of detention. Al-Mahroom was re-detained after he had been released in the Wafaa al-Ahrar prisoner swap deal.
An atmosphere of joy prevailed among al-Mahroom’s family and the other prisoners especially as al-Mahroom is considered one of the veteran prisoners who have spent a very long time in Israeli jails.
Al-Mahroom was released in the Wafaa al-Ahrar prisoner swap deal four years ago after he had spent 27 years in the Israeli jails on charges of killing an Israeli settler. He was serving a life sentence. However the Israeli authorities re-detained him along with dozens of prisoners released in the same deal.
After he was released in the deal al-Mahroom got married but didn’t have children; therefore after being re-detained he and his wife decided to have a baby through a smuggled sperm similar to many Palestinian prisoners.
Al-Mahroom’s mother expressed her happiness at the arrival of her grandson “Adam” and said that he was a dream for her.
The mother who is depressed over her son’s re-detention pointed out that hopefully she will celebrate his release again.
