Prisoner Omar Attrash denied release after completing jail term

Friday 25-November-2016

The Israeli prison authority on Thursday refused to release 36-year-old Omar Attrash after he completed his 14-year prison term.

At the behest of the Shin Bet Israel’s internal intelligence agency the administration of Negev jail transferred Attrash to al-Muskubiya detention center in Occupied Jerusalem for interrogation after he was supposed to be released on Thursday November 24.

According to the family committee for Jerusalem detainees members from the family of the prisoner were waiting for him outside the prison when an Israeli officer told them that he would not be released and would be transferred to Jerusalem for interrogation.

Prisoner Attrash from Sur Baher town in east Jerusalem was arrested on November 26 2002 on a charge of his involvement in activities linked to the Islamic Jihad Movement.

For its part the Israeli district court in Jerusalem sentenced Sahar al-Natsha a pro-Aqsa female activist from Beit Hanina town in Jerusalem to three months in jail on a charge of practicing incitement on Facebook pages.

She would start her prison sentence in January next year.

This prison sentence against her was issued a few days after she had finished her eight-month house arrest sentence.

The same court also sentenced a 15-year-old child called Samer Hamdan to 20 months in prison.

Hamdan has been in detention since February 18 and he is now in Megiddo jail.
