Hayya: Hamas welcomes Egypt’s pro-Gaza initiative

Thursday 24-November-2016

Political bureau member of Hamas Khalil Al-Hayya hailed on Wednesday evening Egypt’s underway initiatives to untie noose around Gaza’s neck.

Speaking with Al-Aqsa TV Channel Hayya said Hamas welcomes Egypt’s attempt to loosen the tough blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

He acclaimed ongoing efforts to foster Gaza-Egypt socio-economic ties adding that a recovery of the Gaza-Egypt commercial exchange will have positive outcomes for the Egyptians and Palestinians alike.

He reiterated Hamas’s commitment to the security of Egypt and the other Arab states.

“We will never accept any attempt to harm our brothers and sisters” said Hayya.

Commenting on the anti-occupation uprising the Hamas leader said Palestinian stakeholders should opt for a unified national strategy to boost the ongoing Jerusalem intifada.

He urged the Palestinian Authority (PA) chaired by Mahmoud Abbas to cease crackdowns against resistance activists and to fight the Israeli occupation with all means available.

Hayya slammed the Israeli ban on Adhan (Muslim call to prayers) in Occupied Jerusalem and the territories occupied in 1948 dubbing it “a racist and immoral” bid.

As regards the Israeli soldiers held captive by Hamas Hayya denied reports on underway initiatives to broker prisoner swap deals with the Israeli occupation expressing the group’s appreciation of the proposal put forth by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to broker a swap deal with Israel in exchange for thousands of Palestinian detainees.

He added that in order for any deal to see the day Israel should manifest a real commitment to free the Palestinians re-arrested by the occupation forces after they were released in the Wafa al-Ahrar deal.

The Hamas leader voiced the group’s dissatisfaction with the isolation wall being erected by the Lebanese authorities around the Ein al-Hilweh camp for Palestinian refugees adding that efforts have been ongoing to cease the construction of the fence.

He urged Fatah Movement to suspend stalled peace talks with Israel after they reached a deadlock expressing hope that Fatah’s Seventh Conference would herald a return to the tenets of the Palestinian cause and a devotion to national partnership in the face of the Israeli occupation all the way through the national liberation struggle.
