Lebanon’s isolation wall sparks anger on social media

Thursday 24-November-2016

Angry Palestinians took to social media to slam the Lebanese authorities branding the isolation wall around the Ein El-Hilweh refugee camp a “wall of shame” and saying that it was similar to the policies of the Israeli government.

The Lebanese authorities have recently begun constructing an isolation wall around Ein al-Hilweh refugee camp one of the country’s largest Palestinian refugee camps.

Palestinian activists launched an online campaign under the title of: “No to the wall of shame” in protest against the construction of the isolation wall.

Numerous Facebook pages denounced the isolation wall calling it the “Apartheid Wall” and “the wall of shame” saying it will turn the camp into a big prison and compared it to the Israeli apartheid wall in the occupied Palestinian territories.

A day of anger was also declared on Friday in protest against the Lebanese sudden decision to build an isolation wall around the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein al-Hilweh.

Along the same line former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and MP Bahiya al-Hariri expressed their dissatisfaction with the isolation wall.

In a joint statement Sidon MP Bahia Hariri and Fouad Siniora expressed their firm rejection of the wall saying it will rather cause a state of tension that Lebanon doesn’t need at the moment.
