Egypt to open Rafah crossing for five days

Monday 14-November-2016

The Egyptian authorities said it would open the Rafah border crossing for five days starting from Monday November 14.

According to the border and crossings authority in Gaza the crossing will be opened in both directions from 14 to 18 November for the travel of students stranded passengers and people with humanitarian cases.

Last week the crossing was opened twice to allow a delegation of Palestinian businessmen and dignitaries to participate in an economic conference in Egypt’s Ein Sokhna resort and then return to Gaza.

Last month hundreds of Palestinians were able to travel through the crossing during seven days of opening.

Although it opens the Rafah crossing every once in a while Egypt has upheld an Israeli military blockade on Gaza for the majority of the past three years since the coup against president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
