Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev arrived in Israel on Wednesday for a three-day stopover over bilateral ties with Israel.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is expected to hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday Russian news agency TASS reported.
“Talks will be held with Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu with President (Reuven) Rivlin and with opposition leader in the Knesset (Yitzhak) Herzog” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Prikhodko told reporters.
According to the same source issues of bilateral agenda will be considered in detail including ways to further strengthen trade and economic investment scientific and technical innovational and humanitarian cooperation between the two parties.
On Thursday the Russian prime minister will hold separate meetings with the Israeli president and with the opposition leader in the Knesset. After that he will hold talks with Netanyahu followed by Russian-Israeli negotiations. A package of documents is expected to be signed after documents and both prime ministers will make statements for the media TASS added.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 2 ahead of the visit Medvedev claimed: “Russia and Israel may reach very many things together for different reasons. I mean of course the origin and development of the State of Israel common interests on the international arena and simply bilateral relations first of all in the economic humanitarian spheres.”
“Over the last years we did not develop our economic cooperation as well as we could have hoped. The current state of affairs – trade turnover between Russia and Israel stands at around $2 billion. This is not much” Medvedev added.
He alleged that the aim is to stimulate growth of trade turnover between Russia and Israel.
The Russian diplomat is also expected to tour Israeli institutions in Occupied Jerusalem.
On Thursday Medvedev will reportedly head to Jericho for a meeting with the Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas.
