Palestinian residents in Fawar refugee camp south of al-Khalil threatened on Monday to close UNRWA offices in the city in protest against its schools’ crisis.
The local activist Ahmed Awad told a PIC reporter that Fawar camp’s residents decided to escalate their protest steps against the UN agency after it refused to meet their demands mainly to address the overcrowding in UNRWA schools.
UNRWA has reduced over the past three weeks its services in its schools in Fawar refugee camp resulting in overcrowding in classrooms.
At present there are over 45 children in each classroom with locals urging the agency to reduce the maximum capacity to 35.
