Protests against overcrowding at UNRWA West Bank schools

Wednesday 12-October-2016

Local services committees north of occupied West Bank declared a series of protest steps against the overcrowding problem in UNRWA’s schools.
General coordinator for the Balata refugee camp’s popular committee Ibrahim Saqer declared a general strike at UNRWA schools starting from 11 am.
The protests have escalated after UNRWA decided to receive over 45 students in each classroom with employees urging the agency to reduce the maximum capacity to 34.
Saqer considered UNRWA’s decision as an unfair decision against Palestinian students that would affect their educational attainment.
He accused the UNRWA of neglecting the education sector and not meeting the basic needs of its schools on allegations of its suffering from funding problems affecting its programs.
