Young men from Nablus Old City protest PA’s detention of citizens

Saturday 16-December-2017

Angry young men on Saturday morning torched tires on roads in the vicinity of the Old City of Nablus in protest at the Palestinian Authority (PA) security apparatuses’ persistence in detaining hunger-striking political prisoners in their jails.

Columns of smoke were seen rising up from Ras al-Ein street al-Shuhada Square and the area near al-Sharqi (eastern) Market while groups of local young men gathered in the alleys of the Old City to prevent storeowners from opening their businesses.

The protest was called for by al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades the disbanded armed wing of Fatah. The Brigades also released a statement calling for a general strike on Saturday in the Old City.

The Brigades accuses the PA security apparatuses of maltreating political prisoners in Jericho jail and demands their release.

The PA locked up several young men from the Old City of Nablus in Jericho jail following armed clashes with its forces several months ago.
