4 Palestinians killed hundreds injured in West Bank Gaza protests

Four Palestinians were killed and more than 500 others were injured on Friday in the clashes that erupted with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in the West Bank and Gaza Strip over the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced that 340 different injuries were reported in the West Bank while 220 were reported in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in al-Bireh announced the death of the Palestinian youth Mohammed Aqel who was shot by the IOF at the northern entrance to al-Bireh for allegedly attempting a stabbing attack.

The Ministry added that the IOF soldiers prevented the medical crews from reaching the young man while he was still alive and that the Palestinian youths in the scene managed later to pull his body and transfer him to the hospital.

Dozens of Palestinians were injured in the IOF quelling of the weekly anti-settlement march in Bil’in village to the west of Ramallah which witnessed the participation of Israeli and foreign solidarity activists.

The PIC reporter said that a mass demonstration was launched in al-Aqsa Mosque courtyards in Jerusalem in rejection of the US president Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Violent confrontations broke out between Palestinian youths and the IOF near Qalandia checkpoint to the north of Jerusalem where the Israeli soldiers fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters at the protesters who responded by throwing stones.

A second Palestinian youth named Basel Ismail was proclaimed dead after being shot with a live bullet in the chest in the clashes that flared up in ‘Anata village in Occupied Jerusalem.

The PIC reporter said that al-Khalil province witnessed mass demonstrations organized by Hamas Fatah and other national and Islamic forces against Trump’s decision.

Clashes flared up to the south of Sa’ir town in al-Khalil after a group of Israeli settlers from Kiryat Arba and Kharsina settlements attacked Palestinian houses under the protection of the IOF soldiers.

Local sources reported that a Palestinian young man was arrested while many others chocked on tear gas in the confrontations that broke out in Beit Einun village to the north of al-Khalil.

WAFA news agency said that the IOF quelled a Palestinian march in Bethlehem city protesting Trump’s decision and attacked the demonstrators with sound bombs and tear gas canisters causing a number of suffocation cases.

Nearly 17 Palestinian youths were injured in clashes in different areas of Nablus province. Eyewitnesses said that the Israeli soldiers arrested three Palestinians near al-Quds street to the south of Nablus city and fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters at the youths who blocked the street with rocks and tires.

In a related context eyewitnesses told the PIC reporter that other confrontations flared up in the villages of Deir Sharaf and Burin where many Palestinians suffered tear gas inhalation and were treated in the field.

Three Palestinians including a journalist were arrested by the Israeli soldiers and dozens choked on tear gas during the clashes that took place in Tubas.

Two Palestinian youths sustained different injuries after being run over by an Israeli military jeep in Jenin confrontations which followed popular marches protesting Trump’s decision during which Palestinian citizens chanted slogans condemning the US biased policy and the Israeli crimes.

Dozens of Palestinians suffered breathing difficulties as a result of inhaling tear gas in the IOF quelling of a peaceful demonstration in Tulkarem.

Other injuries were reported in the clashes that broke out between Palestinian citizens and the IOF soldiers in Salfit province and the towns of Kafr Qaddum Azzun and Jayyous in Qalqilya province.

Meanwhile in the Gaza Strip spokesman for the Ministry of Health Ashraf al-Qedra said that dozens were injured while two Palestinian youths named Yaser Sukkar 23 and Ibrahim Abu Thourayya 29 whose both legs were amputated during the 2008 war on Gaza were killed by the Israeli soldiers in the protests launched along Gaza’s eastern border fence.
