Right sources slam Israeli decision to isolate Barghouthi

Tuesday 12-December-2017

The Palestinian committee for prisoners Affairs condemned on Tuesday the Israeli decision to place jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouthi in solitary confinement in central Israel’s Hadarim Prison.

Barghouthi had been placed in solitary confinement as punitive measure after he issued a statement condemning US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel the committee said.

“Barghouthi is a national icon who cannot be separated from his people.”

The move comes at a time when the Palestinian territories are witnessing large-scale protests against last week’s decision by Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Barghouthi 58 has spent 15 years behind bars since being arrested by Israel in 2002 during the second Palestinian Intifada.
