Hundreds of Israeli soldiers stormed the Tomb of Joseph in the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Wednesday under the pretext of performing Talmudic rituals.

According to eyewitnesses three buses took hundreds of soldiers accompanied by Israeli patrols to Joseph’s Tomb. Violent confrontations broke out in the streets around the tomb especially around the Amman Street Balata village and the northern entrance of Balata refugee camp following the incursion.

Palestinian citizens threw stones at Israeli patrols while the soldiers fired sound bombs and teargas at the protesters.

The 0404 Hebrew website noted that an army battalion stormed the tomb for the first time in 18 years accompanied by the President of the Regional Council of settlers in the northern West Bank Yossi Dagan.
