Dozens of sick Gazans and students joined on Thursday a rally calling on the Egyptian authorities to permanently open Rafah border-crossing with Gaza.
The rally-goers lifted banners urging the concerned authorities to open Rafah crossing point so as to allow thousands of stranded civilians access out of and into the besieged enclave.
Speaking on behalf of the stranded passengers Mahmoud al-Raqb called on the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to assume his duties as regards the affair and make serious steps to unblock the crossing.
He added that thousands of Gazans among them students holders of foreign passports and patients need to urgently pass through the passageway.
Earlier in the day the General Commission for Civil Affairs announced Egypt’s decision to open Rafah crossing in both directions for three days earlier next week.
A reconciliation deal struck between Fatah and Hamas on October 12 signaled the launch of the PA’s mission in the Gaza Strip and its takeover of key files most notably border crossings.
