Israel to protect Druze town from Syrian opposition attack

Israeli army spokesperson Ronen Manelis declared on Friday that Israeli forces will intervene militarily to prevent the occupation of a Druze town in the Syrian Golan Heights which has come under attack by the Syrian opposition group Nusra Front.

Israeli Channel Two stated that “The Israeli army Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot held talks with Israeli commanders of the northern front on the assessment of the situation.

Israelis are trying with this declaration to please the Druze community who have been residents of Israel since it occupied the Golan Heights in 1967.

Israeli army declared the occupied Syrian Golan Heights a closed military zone in order to prevent the migration of Syrian citizens into the occupied region. This followed reports claiming that Druze towns in the Syrian side have come under attack by armed groups.
