Wednesday 25-October-2017

Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya on Wednesday phoned King of Jordan Abdullah II Bin al-Hussein to brief him on the latest political developments in the Palestinian arena especially those related to the reconciliation file.

Haneyya affirmed in a statement released by his office that Hamas is serious and sincere in its efforts to bring the reconciliation agreement into effect praising the role Jordan has played to make the Palestinian reconciliation succeed.

He pointed to the strong Palestinian-Jordanian relations recalling the victory achieved in the battle of Karameh and the efforts made by King Hussein Bin Talal to secure the release of Hamas’s founder Sheikh Ahmad Yasin from Israeli jails.

He also highlighted the services offered by the Jordanian Hospital in Gaza which constitutes an ongoing royal grant to the Palestinian people in the besieged territory and the efforts exerted by Jordan to preserve the Palestinian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The Hamas leader stressed during his conversation with King Abdullah II that Hamas rejects all conspiracies based on the idea of designating Jordan as an “alternative homeland” for Palestinian refugees adding “Jordan is an authentic Arab country that has its own sovereignty history and people.”

“Jordan’s security is our security” he said asserting that Jordan’s national security is of great importance to Hamas.

For his part King Abdullah II congratulated the Palestinian people on the signing of the reconciliation agreement and affirmed that Jordan will continue to support the Palestinians stressing the need to make every possible effort to restore the centrality of the Palestinian cause.
