The Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas gave instructions to open military recruitment in the blockaded Gaza Strip a member of Fatah’s Central Committee reported on Monday.
According to Hussein al-Sheikh from Fatah’s Central Committee Abbas’s decision to rehabilitate enlistment in the Gaza Strip comes as part of the government’s retrieval of its mission in the enclave.
In an interview broadcast by Palestine TV Channel al-Sheikh said Fatah has made several concessions to reach an agreement with Hamas and put the last touches on the reconciliation file.
He added that the government will take over Gaza’s border crossings in early November. The Fatah official attributed Egypt’s closure of the Rafah border-crossing with Gaza to the deadly attacks in Sinai.
At the same time the PA president ordered the members of Fatah’s Central Committee to permanently visit Gaza so as to restructure Fatah Movement al-Sheikh further stated.
Following a round of talks in Cairo Fatah and Hamas movements signed a reconciliation accord in the presence of the Egyptian Intelligence Minister Khaled Fawzi. Key to the deal is the retrieval of the government’s mission in Gaza by early December.
