Head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Committee Issa Qaraqe condemned on Thursday the oppressive measures pursued against Palestinians in Israeli jails.
Qaraqe said the Israeli prison authorities continue to violate the legal status of Palestinian detainees as political prisoners and victims of an occupying power as already identified by the Geneva Conventions the international humanitarian law and the UN resolutions.
“The Israeli occupation has been doing its best to blacklist Palestinian detainees as terrorists and criminals” said Qaraqe. “Palestinians’ struggle is one of national liberation and self-determination.”
He added that the Israeli occupation authorities and government continue to implement racist policies and infringe Palestinians’ legitimate rights.
Nearly 7000 Palestinian detainees among them 13 minor girls and 400 minor boys are held in 30 Israeli lock-ups across the occupied Palestinian territories.
