Israeli police fine Kifl Hares drivers in Salfit

Thursday 5-October-2017

The Israeli occupation police on Thursday morning set up a makeshift checkpoint on a dirt road near Kifl Hares town west of Salfit in the West Bank and embarked on fining Palestinian drivers.

Local residents have been using this dirt road for about 26 days after the Israeli border police closed the main road to Kifl Hares.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli border policemen stopped their vehicle near a building belonging to the Israeli electricity company west of Salfit and embarked on issuing traffic tickets against any driver coming from al-Abbara road to Salfit.

This Israeli measure prompted Palestinian drivers to phone others to warn them not to use that road and to find alternative routes.

The Israeli military and security authorities have been harassing Kifl Hares residents and restricting their movement for weeks in response to what they claim to be stone-throwing attacks carried out by local young men.
