Wednesday 27-December-2006

NAZARETH (PIC)– Israeli premier Ehud Olmert on Wednesday ordered his army to resume assassination policy in the Gaza Strip against those firing missiles at Israeli targets in a step that would blow up the calm with the Palestinian resistance.

Olmert who chaired a meeting for commanders of security apparatuses in the presence of war minister Amir Peretz gave his army the green light to target resistance fighters in Gaza. He also asked the PA chief to adopt immediate measures to halt the missile firing.

An Israeli political source earlier Wednesday told the Hebrew media that the army had adopted a plan to resume assassination of Palestinian resistance fighters.

The source said that the army command had recommended Olmert to put an end to what he called “self-restraint” and to deal harshly with those firing the missiles.

For his part Peretz affirmed in a telephone conversation with Olmert Tuesday night that it was impossible to stand idle while Islamic Jihad activists continued to fire rockets.

Meanwhile four Israeli settlers were wounded including one critically in Sderot settlement north of the Gaza Strip after it came under missile attack.

The Quds Brigades the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement took the responsibility for the attack.

Israeli police earlier Tuesday acknowledged that four rockets hit Sderot and a fifth targeted Ashkelon and that material damages were suffered.

Early Wednesday the Quds Brigades declared responsibility for firing a new upgraded locally made missile at Sderot.

The armed wing asserted that the missile firing was in retaliation to IOF troops violations of the calm that so far killed 16 Palestinians.
