Hamas chief reaches out to Palestinian leaders over national unity

Monday 25-September-2017

Political bureau chairman of Hamas Ismail Haneyya on Sunday evening briefed Palestinian leaders on the upshots of the latest Cairo stopover.

Reaching out to the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Shalah and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Abu Ahmed Fuad along with the Deputy Secretary-General of the PFLP-General Command Talel Naji Haneyya tackled the results of the recent Cairo-brokered talks held in an attempt to boost national reconciliation and work out the crises rocking the blockaded Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Haneyya further called attention to the steps that should be made by Hamas in partnership with Fatah to prop up unity.

Hamas chief lauded Cairo’s efforts in favor of the reconciliation file and the Palestinian cause.

For their part the three Palestinian leaders expressed their satisfaction with Hamas decision to disband the administrative committee in Gaza saying the move stems from “a shared sense of national responsibility.”

The leaders expressed their movement’s readiness to join reconciliation talks as soon as an invitation is extended to them.

The telephone conversation also warned of underway attempts by Israel and the US administration to liquidate the Palestinian cause and boost settlement schemes in the occupied territories.
