Tuesday 19-September-2017

Head of the Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya on Tuesday said that six key issues were discussed in the recent Egypt-Hamas talks particularly bilateral relations Gaza siege and reconciliation.

Speaking to a press conference upon his arrival at Rafah crossing following a nine-day visit to Cairo with Hamas’s chief in Gaza Yahya al-Sinwar and his deputy Khalil al-Hayya Haneyya said that the talks were successful.

Haneyya described Hamas’s decision to dissolve the administrative committee as “bold and important” adding that his Movement is waiting for the Palestinian Authority (PA) government to come to Gaza and assume its duties.

He revealed that a bilateral meeting is set to be held in Cairo between Hamas and Fatah days after the arrival of the PA government to Gaza to confer about key issues and prepare for another meeting that involves all Palestinian factions to discuss the implementation of the Cairo agreements.

The Palestinian leader noted that the developments in the political situation of the Palestinian territories were the first to be addressed in the meetings.

Haneyya explained that Hamas was seeking through its latest visit to Egypt to build a strong strategic relation with the country and expressed his gratitude for the Egyptian authorities for hosting Hamas’s delegation and for their ongoing efforts to achieve Palestinian national reconciliation.

Haneyya said that border security was among the main issues raised during the talks adding that Egypt’s national security is of great importance to his Movement.

According to Haneyya finding ways to alleviate the decade-long blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip was a top priority for Hamas’s delegation to Cairo.

The Hamas leader pointed out that the delegation touched on the settlement activity and the unjust Israeli policies pursued against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

He concluded by saying that this is the first meeting held in Cairo that brings together leaders of Hamas from Gaza West Bank and the Diaspora stressing that Hamas which is approaching the 30th anniversary of its inception is still united and adherent to the Palestinian national constants.
