Palestinian detainee on hunger strike for 5th day in Israeli jail

Monday 18-September-2017

A Palestinian detainee started five days ago an open-ended hunger strike to protest isolated detention in Israeli lock-ups.

Palestinian prisoner Anas Shadid has been on a hunger strike for five days running in the Israeli Hadarim jail where he has been serving an administrative sentence with neither charge nor trial according to his family.

Shadid was kidnapped by the Israeli occupation forces on June 14 from his family home in Kharsa south of al-Khalil and was sentenced to a six-month administrative term.

Sometime earlier Shadid had gone through a 90-day hunger strike to protest administrative detention. Medics had warned that he was at the risk of going quadriplegic and amnesiac as a result of the hunger strike.

Some 6500 Palestinian detainees are being held in 22 Israeli penitentiaries among them 350 minors and 56 women and girls.
