France denounced on Monday Israel’s demolition of a number of Palestinian schools in Occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank a few days before the start of the new school year.
Official spokeswoman of France’s foreign ministry said in a statement that Israel demolished a school funded by the European Union in Jubbet ad-Dib village to the east of Bethlehem. The Israeli authorities also destroyed a kindergarten and confiscated solar panels from a France-funded school to the east of al-Eizariya town the statement added.
The spokeswoman stressed that these Israeli measures are contrary to the international law expressing concern that the demolitions took place in areas of strategic importance to the two-state solution.
On Wednesday the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) seized caravans used as classrooms at Jubbet ad-Dib school on the grounds that they had been built without permission.
Tents were erected by Palestinian activists and organizations for the 64 students attending the school in a protest at the confiscation of the caravans.
Less than two weeks ahead of the first day of school the IOA demolished the only kindergarten in Jabal al-Baba Bedouin community to the east of Jerusalem and dismantled and confiscated solar panels that are the only source of power at a primary school in Abu Nawwar area.
