Schoolchildren at Jub al-Dhib School in Bethlehem have gone without a roof over their head on the first day of the new academic year after the Israeli occupation forces turned their classrooms into mounds of rubble.
Late on Tuesday evening the Israeli occupation forces knocked down Jub al-Dhib School east of Bethlehem and seized makeshift classrooms under the pretext that they are installed in a closed military zone.
The occupation soldiers subjected the locals to heavy beating and showered the area with live rounds and rubber bullets in an attempt to disband the protesters who showed up at the scene.
The school funded by the Belgian Development Cooperation and the Italian Voluntary Civil Society provides academic courses to some 60 Palestinian schoolchildren from nearby villages.
The occupation forces seized all school furniture desks chairs and stationary.
Coordinator for Bethlehem’s anti-settlement committee Hassan Brijiyeh said the move carried out in favor of illegal settlement expansion represents a flagrant breach of children’s right to education.
