6 journalists released from PA lock-ups another’s detention extended

The Palestinian Authority (PA) General Intelligence Service on Monday released six Palestinian journalists and extended the remand of another till Tuesday.

The Magistrate’s Court in Bethlehem ruled for acquitting the two Palestinian journalists Mamdouh Hamamra and Quteiba Qasem on a bail of 1000 dinars each.

The court further released the Palestinian journalist Thaer al-Fakhouri held in PA lock-ups without charges.

Journalists Tareq Abu Zeid Amer Abu Arafa and Ahmed Halayka were released on a fine of 1000 dinars each.

Journalist Islam Salem from Nablus is expected to be released on Tuesday according to the Union of Palestinian Journalists.

Over recent days seven Palestinian journalists were arrested by the PA forces in the occupied West Bank shortly after a controversial Cyber Crimes Law signed by the PA President Mahmoud Abbas has been put into effect.
