The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will hold on Monday an emergency session on the latest Israeli escalation in Jerusalem said the Egyptian official news agency quoting diplomatic sources.
Sweden’s ambassador to UNSC Carl Skau said on Twitter that Sweden France and Egypt called for a UNSC emergency session to discuss the situation in Jerusalem in view of the continuing clashes between the Israeli police and the Palestinian protesters.
Jerusalem as well as other major Palestinian cities witnessed on Friday mass demonstrations and violent confrontations in which three Palestinians were killed and hundreds were injured.
The demonstrations were launched in protest at the Israeli decision to set up metal detectors at the gates of al-Aqsa Mosque following its closure on 14th July.
